3 Ways to Take a Step Back
There are times that we all become a little overwhelmed and consumed by the day to day routine. When it comes to living a balanced life we often forget that sometimes taking a break from the norm to recoup is just what we need. There was a time when I was living in Cleveland with my now husband and I remember being distinctly overwhelmed and frustrated with my day to day routine that the only way I could see things getting better was by taking a break. So we did just that and took a much-needed trip to Charlotte, NC to visit some family. We spent a weekend there and enjoyed the nice weather. It was super relaxing to be out and enjoying some warmer weather being that Cleveland was cold 9 months out of the year. Believe it or not that little break helped us to refocus and go home feeling rejuvenated. Here are my top 3 tips to taking a step back.
1. Identify the stressor. Whether it is your job, school, or having too many things to do it is important to identify the problem. No matter what it is big or small try to find time to take a break and care for yourself and well-being.
2. Make plans to RELAX. Going out of town isn't the only way to take a break and reclaim your time and energy. Making time to do the things you love, establish a new hobby, even going out to a coffee shop, or reading a good book can help you relax. This also doesn't mean you have to relax alone. Spend time with a friend, significant other, or family.
3. Take a deep breath. Step away from the stress. Hopefully, once you have made plans and executed them you will feel better and hopefully some weight would have been taken off of your shoulders. Whether it is a mini vacation or just a simple day/night in. It should help you to remember what you love to do and enjoy. And remember there is nothing wrong with taking time for yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally.
